4 Years of Mapify: Milestones that mapped our Growth
May 15, 2025

Mapify turned four this month and while we didn’t throw a huge party (we considered it), we did take a moment to reflect on everything this journey has meant so far. What started as a bold idea to simplify location intelligence is now a platform used across industries, by people solving real-world problems every day. That’s something worth celebrating.
To mark this special occasion, we're highlighting four meaningful milestones that embody the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and social impact. These achievements reflect not only our product evolution but also the communities, cities, and users who inspire us to build better.
1. Partnering with APCV to Improve Urban Emergency Response 🆘
We believe technology should be accessible to those who need it most. That’s why NGOs like APCV benefit from free access to our platform. Based in Bogotá, Colombia, APCV is a volunteer-led organization that responds to emergencies such as traffic accidents and fires, operating under significant constraints, but with an enormous mission.
Before Mapify, APCV volunteers relied on WhatsApp and radio for coordination, often dealing with fragmented communication and limited visibility. They began by integrating Waze’s API into Mapify to visualize incidents on a map, giving dispatchers a clearer picture of what was happening in real time. But deeper operational challenges remained, that’s when our team stepped in to help and improve their response system:
- Navigation Integration: Volunteers now receive direct links to incident locations with real-time directions via Google Maps.
- Real-Time Incident Map: Dispatchers use a synchronized map that updates automatically from Google Sheets.
- Volunteer Tracker: A web app allows volunteers to log in, share their location, and update their shift status.
This project was especially meaningful to us thanks to Tomás Pedrosa, our summer intern. His hands-on involvement helped translate APCV's needs into a fully functional, easy-to-use solution. It’s a powerful example of what’s possible when innovation meets community-driven missions.

2. Famalicão: The first Municipality to Use Mapify 🏙️
Vila Nova de Famalicão holds a special place in our journey, it was the first municipality to implement Mapify to bring real-time to smart city operations. With a strong focus on digital transformation, the Municipality of Famalicão uses our platform to manage real-time data across multiple domains, enhancing decision-making and improving the daily life of its citizens.
Let’s take a closer look at how they’re leveraging Mapify's capabilities:
Smart Urban Mobility: Famalicão built a city-wide mobility system powered by Mapify, including:
- Parking Monitoring: Real-time, color-coded maps show parking availability across city zones.
- Parking Lot Management: API integrations update citizens every 30 seconds with the latest car park data.
- Public Transport Geolocation: Mapify tracks buses in circulation, helping users plan more accurate commutes.
- Waze Integration: Geo-referenced alerts from Waze flow directly into Mapify through a two-way connection.
- Traffic Visualization: A live traffic layer gives citizens and city teams better insight for route planning.
- Travel Time Panels: Digital signage shows real-time travel estimates to key points across town.
Digital Commercial District: As part of its smart city strategy, the municipality also deployed Mapify for infrastructure and services:
- Smart Waste Management: IoT sensors in bins send real-time data to Mapify, enabling optimized collection routes.
- Beacon Infrastructure: Beacons in key areas integrate with Mapify to improve the urban experience through location-aware services.
Mapify is now a foundation of Famalicão’s digital transformation strategy, proving its value through technical reliability, flexible use cases, and real-time data integration. Famalicão and Mapify are redefining urban operations and enhancing citizen experiences through innovative city management solutions.

3. Mapify featured at leading Events 🙌
Over the past few years, Mapify has stepped confidently into the spotlight at some of the most relevant events in tech and urban innovation. From Lisbon to Barcelona, we connected with forward-thinking professionals, shared practical use cases, and demonstrated how real-time location intelligence is being applied in the field.
Google Cloud Day Lisbon – 2023 & 2024
At both editions of Google Cloud Day Lisbon, we ran live demos, shared client success stories, and introduced new platform features. We had the opportunity to engage with professionals from across industries, understanding how Mapify is a practical, intuitive solution that brings location context into their operations.
Smart City Expo World Congress – Barcelona 2023 & 2024
At the world’s largest event for smart cities, we had the opportunity to reconnect with long-standing partners and explore new collaborations. From urban mobility to infrastructure planning, Mapify proved to be a natural fit for public sector teams looking to act on live data and improve city services.
IoT Solutions World Congress – Barcelona 2023
Back in early 2023, we took part in the IoT Solutions World Congress, an international event focused on the future of industrial IoT. For the first time, we presented the Devices tab in Mapify’s console, showing how teams can manage connected assets and sensor data in real time, without writing a single line of code. It marked an important step in making IoT more accessible to non-technical users.

4. Delivering Custom Solutions with
Kyndryl 🤝
Over the past year, Kyndryl, one of the world’s leading IT infrastructure services providers, has been developing smart city and IoT projects with Mapify as one of the key technologies in their solution stack.
What we’ve built together:
- Data Integration: Mapify was used to integrate diverse data sources, from IoT telemetry and municipal databases to open datasets like weather and census information.
- Workflow Automation: Custom workflows and alert systems were set up to automate responses.
- Business Applications: Giving municipalities a real-time, 360º view of their territory.
Much of this innovation is driven from Kyndryl’s delivery center in Portalegre, based at the Polytechnic’s tech incubator. The center has grown into a specialized hub of engineers and developers focused on IoT and Smart City solutions, now supporting nationwide deployment.
Together, Kyndryl and Mapify are helping cities turn complex data into clarity.

Looking Ahead 🚀
Four years in, we’re just getting started. Every Mapify milestone is built on one thing: turning big ideas into working solutions, without writing a single line of code. We’re incredibly proud of what our team, users, and partners have achieved, and even more excited for what’s next.
